BOSTON- Turns out that throwing passes to Mohammed Sanu is not just for video purposes.
Former Panthers QB and NFL MVP Cam Newton has signed a one year “prove it” deal with the New England Patriots.
The deal currently stands at an incentive based deal per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Newton will now join Brian Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham in a QB battle to replace the recently departed Tom Brady.
The former #1 overall pick has spent his entire career with the Panthers, winning the MVP and taking them to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2003 when they ironically lost to the Patriots.
Newton’s ability is unquestionable as it led Auburn to the national title in 2010, yet his antics in defeat have many questioning his work ethic.
The Panthers have proceeded forward with Teddy Bridgewater while Newton was cast aside on the free-agent market.
Now it’s time for Cam to get a fresh start in Foxborough, but a starting job is anything but guaranteed.
Plenty have gone to New England with a diva attitude and changed their ways. Will it come the same way for Cam?
It all remains to be seen in the 2020 NFL season, if it occurs that is.
