RICHMOND- Former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf has worked on turning his life around.

Despite positive signs, the demons still lurk inside him and now he’s back in a world of trouble.

TMZ reports the former Washington State standout has been arrested for domestic battery, with a bail being set at $5,000.

Leaf became a hot commodity in 1998 after leading the Washington State Cougars to their first rose bowl appearance in over 60 years.

Following the loss to Michigan, Leaf was selected #2 overall in the 1998 NFL Draft by the then San Diego Chargers. The guy who went before him? Peyton Manning to the Indianapolis Colts.

Leaf won his first two starts before a disaster against Kansas City in which he exploded on reporter Jay Posner following the loss.

Leaf would be released in 2000 and has several other short stints before retiring and ultimately finding himself in more trouble off the field.

Since removed from the gridiron, Leaf has been arrested multiple times for things like drug possession and burglary.

Recently, he became a program ambassador for an organization that runs sober houses in multiple cities including L.A. and N.Y. in addition covering college football for ESPN.

Another chapter to a tale of wasted talent from inner demons. Don’t expect Chargers fans to feel sorry for him though.
